Alright guys, I'm over at school (Purdue) and they've decided to start a how-stuff-works class and they asked me to teach it. This is for sophomore level mechanical engineers so we're going over some basic stuff that'll relate to core course work. So far we've taken apart a door knob and dead bolt, a hand mixer and an RC airplane motor. We're still looking for some more ideas so I threw out the idea of turbos, considering that pretty much all of these students are taking thermodynamics 1 right now (a lot of analyzing turbines and compressors as well as a little bit of finned cooling - intercoolers). Well I got the ok to go ahead on this so now I'm trying to collect turbos.

I'm looking for 10-11 turbos that don't have to be in the best shape but just need all of the parts that go with them. So if everyone went out and grabbed their old, blown 14b's I'd be in great shape (I would like them to all be the same model if possible). I've already posted in the WTB section of the exchange just in case but I thought I'd explain a little bit more in here.

I've got the ok to do this from the ME department but my budget is still pretty low and we still need to buy other supplies for more presentations. So if I could get a collection of turbos with blown seals for $10 a piece, I'd be pretty happy.

So post up here if you have one that you're willing to donate or sell that is in a decent enough condition for people to play around with. I am going to see if I can get ahold of enough turbos before I start buying though.

Thanks a lot in advance guys.

That sounds interesting! I wish I had a turbo laying around to donate.

Good luck with this class. biggthumpup.gif

Thanks for the replies so far, I don't need everyone to come up with one, I just 10-11 people to do so. Thinking about applications to turbos was the only thing that kept me motivated in thermo and I'd really like to share that with these guys.

I've got a blown t-25 I'd let go for $10 if you get desperate.

Come on guys, I have one offer and one turbo of my own at home. This still puts me 9 short. I know more people than just myself and AWD DSM 1 have blown their stock turbos so go out in the garage and find 'em.

thanks in advance

Have you talked to the machine engineers at PPG to see if there are any blown diesel turbos you could use?

No, I haven't, but we send all of those turbos back to the Tech Center for analysis and they never come back.

It's a damn shame, we blew 2 turbos last summer that were undoubtly scraped just on the Monarch machines.
