just got it apart and compresser wheel is done. it has tons of shaft play. I am guessing I blew a seal, since it was smoking badly.

I just need a center section that's not worn out. Does it look like the housing is worn? When you wiggle the shaft (without the comprssor side parts in the way) does the journal bearing visibly move in the housing or is the wear all in the inner diameter of the brass bearing?

thanx kicks you know as well as I do 25psi on a 14b is fun while it lasts
 just got back from a test drive and DAMN!!!!!!!! does the 16g hit hard. seem about or better then the old frank jr. Still got a few things I need to do got some nice leaks at o2-down pipe got to reattach one of my hangers so it stops rattling. oh yea and I need to turn the boost down......  chris I have not tore the 14b apart if you wanna meet some time after work tomorrow and take a look feel free. -------------------- ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐

well me and turbo's don't seem to get along
noticed at work today I was leaking oil from the oil return line at the oil pan. well when I tried to snug the bolts up I noticed one of the bolt holes in the pan is stripped. I also noticed that the oil coming out has brass flakes in it. so my guess is the 16g is on it's way out as well. I am at the point of burning the pos to the ground. -------------------- ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐

The oil return lines are the worst for leaks so don't feel alone. I don't know many if any that don't have a leaking return line.
Do you think that there is any chance the brass flakes are from the 14b that just went out? In either case sounds like a good time to drain the oil to keep from hurting the engine. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

it could be from the 14b......but I have noticed a whine right before the turbo spools. I need a pair of ears that know what they are hearing.

any tips or tricks to get the bolt hole re threaded with out dropping the pan? I am loosing far too much oil, and Mobil 1 is too expensive to leak on the ground.

Well, If you pull the oil return tube all together it may give you room to put a small magnet up to the inside of the hole while you drill and or re-tap it for a larger bolt.
I think I would personally rather drop the pan and make sure no shaving get down in to the oil where they could be sent through the engine and possibly ruin it. Some things are just a pain in the A$$ if you want to do them right. I know that almost everytime that I've tried a short-cut it screwed something up causing me to do more work in the end than I would have if I did it right the first time. You could try putting a helicoil in, might be cheaper than another pan.

I have never used a helicoil, I have seen it done. just not sure if this is the part I want to try out my first helicoil.

I thought I could throw one in for you...but I just checked the garage...I don't have any m6 helicoils.

My replacement pan should be here tomorrow. But I am having some other problems.
The "whine" I noticed has gotten louder and more often, I have lost all boost. The fins are perfect and the shaft play is nothing that worries me.I have talked to ncgalant and spy numerous times this week and what e are thinking is either a blockage in the IC piping or an oil feed problem. -------------------- ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐

boost leak complete, had one at the j-pipe fixed it and still save problem. at this point I am calling the turbo junk.

Ok I have been talking to spy and he is not convinced it's my turbo just yet. We are gonna do an extensive boost leak test this weekend.We are leaning towards a hole in the intercooler. Seeing how I did the test by myself we feel I may have missed a leak.When I put the air in I can not get to my boost gauge before it get to 0. I have been told if it's bleeding off that fast I have a leak somewhere.
so there is a little hope for the 16g

It's got to be a hole in the intercooler or a slit in a coupler to be leaking that fast. I can't beleive you've got a cut oring in the turbo to leak that much air.
If you can't find any other causes, I can look at that turbo for you. I'm not expert but I've taken a few apart now and can see what's bad...and I'm free

How's the oring around the outside edge of the centersection look where it seals around the compressor housing?

If you need a 14b or a t25 to get up and running I have one of each. I don't know the shape of the 14b but I am 90% sure the t25 is okay. I'm not going to need either one for quite some time and I don' t think I will need either at all because I have an 16g for the car.
