Expecting to find a promised exotic supercar, borrowed specifically for a race, I cruised into the local hang out spot. Apparently, the guy didn't think I would show up, or at least that was his story that evening, so he didn't borrow his brother's new Carrera 4S. Whatever. While I didn't necessarily expect to lose to that car (if it had been there), I wouldn't have minded, considering the price tag and rarity.

So a lot of BS'ing was done about setting up other races, though thanks to my excellent negotiators, nothing was gained...

A very slick looking LS1 f-body said he wouldn't race aNAlUBé because he 'knew better'. Then I slowmouthed a kid with an STi, but he was 16, out past his curfew, and needed to get his jailbait,,,errrr girl...home for the night. Apparently he was attempting to return her rather quickly because when Spy left to give chase and secure a race for himself, he had trouble keeping up with the Subaru's exit speed which topped 140mph.

The lot cleared out and I prepared to leave, but Spy stopped me before doing so and told me of his hot pursuit with the newly licensed maniac driving his daddy's STi.

Talks began again between the slick LS1 with SS badging and a WS6 hood. This time with no liasons, we were able to come to terms. The event would be from a roll sad.gif , and for no money sad.gif . I pretty much had to embarrass him into the race as well, this guy was very reluctant. Odd, considering that he boated of a 370 whp dyno pull and the car had full exhaust and intake. If these V8's aren't going to nut up with that much power under the hood against a weak little 4 cyl, I don't know what kind of motivation they're going to need in order to race with confidence.

At the dragstrip....
We both punch it from a 1st gear roll, and we were momentarily dead even while we both spun our tires....my 4, his 2. Being the experienced race car driver I am, I miss 2nd gear by a mile and the pushrod opponent pulled a full car length before I found 2nd, and started reeling him back in. I managed to get to his passenger door by the time the top of 2nd hit, and at 60mph, I shifted to third and the roar of his v8 started to fade as aNAlUBé moved onward. It takes years of practice to perfect the art of blowing a shift, my experience was made evident again, as I somehow managed to miss 4th gear. This time I feared recovery was not possible. The v8 was in the lead by a nose and surely my awd drivetrain would sap most of the few, weak, languid ponies that my engine was even able to produce. No way I could recover and pass a 370 hp, rwd, monstrously ominous LS1 powered machine at speeds topping 100mph. Yet somehow aNAlUBé found a way, proving once again, there is always time for lubricant. 4th gear was amazing, I pulled ahead solidly, and when I actually hit 5th gear on the first try, the gap widened considerably. I hit the hazards and as the v8 passed on my left I looked over to see the passenger shrugging his shoulders as if to say 'what did you expect?'. Weak. Somebody go out and lose to these v8 pussies so they grow their balls back. I keep hearing about a time when 4 cyl's used to be the underdogs. What happened?
