Well, 80K miles is a little early for having a problem with your valve stems seals. My Galant is close to 100K and not having any problem yet.
Are you the original owner? It really does sound like the vss cause if it was your turbo(s), then it should blow oil when in boost. Another thing it could be is too much oil getting in your intake from the valve cover if you still have the breather hose in place. If you do, then clean your ICs and put a breather filter on. Sometimes the PVC valve can get clogged too. I think it can cause more pressure under the valve cover pushing more oil out the breather hose. Might want to check that stuff first. If it's even still in place
