I have a 1990 Eagle Talon AWD and the timing belt is gone. The weird thing is however that when we tried to start it before replacing it, the cams didn't move at all. I was thinking even if the timing belt was stripped, it would still spin to the top. We didn't figure out that it was the timing belt until we ripped everthing off of the car. The only part of the timing belt that was bad was the part touching the crank sprocket. That is what made me think that maybe the cams or something else seized up, and wouldn't allow the timing belt to spin. And when we tried to asses the damage, by turning over the engine, we stripped out the timeing belt. Plus when the engine shut off the first time, there was a loud screech noise, i though maybe it was the valves hitting the heads. When we turned the car over, everything spun except for the timing belt. The alternator, water pump, power steering, all but the timing belt. Is it reasonable to think that something seized up and then i stripped the timing belt with the crank spocket? Please reply, I am lost.

no, nothing is taken off except for the necessary belts and hoses to get to the timing belt.

i've kind of looked at cheaf's car.. it really is kinda fishy. the car has 82xxx miles which is a normal time for the timing belt to take a shit, but wouldn't that take a whole lot else down, not just the crankshaft pulley being 'stripped?' first thing we figured was that the balancer was off, but i dont know if that'd cause the cams/gears to seize up like they did. i also took off the plug wire cover and there was a fair amount of oil sittin in there.. i didn't see any cracks in the VC so i'm hoping it was just the moron who changed the oil last and spilled some in there (wasn't me or cheaf
