I've never heard anything about them being different so I'd say yes.
From my work on the auto 2g awd I had, the transfer case on it was different from a 2g stick, but 1g's were the same to my knowledge. -------------------- my cars breath smells like car food

The gearing is different, so don't swap 'em. http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html

You can try sourcing a part number or just open the casing and counting the teeth on the pinion gear. I suppose either would work just as well.
