what the hell did they do to my car . ok here is the scoop i took my car a 98 gxs in to get some things taken care of first my timming belt and balancer belt and a coulpe other things elce too. Like getting it alined and a wheel stud put in just your little things i could do but didn't want to. so here is what happened they finished my car about 7 hours later and when i got it back and started it up the thing iddled real rough. and i was not pulling the 17 Lbs of vac. on my boost guage only 11 so that told my the timming was off i took it back also but befor i could get turned around i noticed the car was real loud now like i had no muffler this happened all the way through the rpm range. i took it right back and they said they would get it first thing the next day and they did. It was off one tooth on the front cam and the vac went back up to the normal 17 lbs and the car was iddling better so i thought cool they got it right. well wrong there was still the loud noise through the whole rpm range and as you get up to 4 to 6 K rpms it gets real bad and loud i have stock exhaust so its not loud at all and it vibrates somthing horrable they say that it seams ok to them but this is not right i know my can and i am afraid to drive it for fear it will vibrate apart while i am driving so they have it again and will look at it monday . if any of you know why it might be doing this vibs i will be more that greatfull to hear it . i personal think that they didn't get the balanser lined up right. everything that i could see looked allright but i am not the best to ask about this which is the reason it was take in to the shop in the first place PLEASE help me if you can why the bad vibs unsure.gif

Sounds like the rear balance shaft is misaligned. Which place did you take it?

They probably have the balance shaft out of phase.

The answer is getting redundant, but it's the rear balance shaft not being set properly.

so you all know not to go there it is Terry winn tire on pioneer parkway i will say this they are doing all they can to make me happy in the mean while they have given me 2 loaners one for the other day, that would have been fri. and one for the weekend but i wish they would have done it right the first time and or i would got off my pooper and found out where slowpony moved in to in east peoria well i know better now thanks for all the help i will tell them its the rear shaft that its miss alined lol because they are doing it all for free now for the 3 time biggrin.gif

HAHAHAHA, Terry Winn. That place is rediculous. I went to the one on Hershey in Bloomington. This is how I made my mistake. I took my 92 GST in for an alignment. I waited 2 hours after they said it would be a half hour wait. When they finally pulled my car in onto the alignment rack they popped the hood and the mechanic waived all of the other mechanics over to take a look. I am flattered that they were looking at my car but seriously, it's in for an alignment. Then, he proceeds to take all the oil rags I had laying on top of the valve cover for oil absorbsion (my valve cover oil cap gasket was leaking) and throw them in the garbage. He puts all the receptors on the wheels, takes a printout and puts the car back outside without test driving it. I get charged 60 bucks for him to put it in, throw my rags out, make a printout, and all to tell me nothing's wrong when the car pulls to the left. IMHO, don't even think about going back even if they don't get it right this third time. I'd be taking my car somewhere else.

The oily rags on top of your engine are a HUGE fire hazard Turbohcar, and I'm sure they felt they were doing you a favor. BTW - I simply purchased a second oil cap gasket and doubled them up to keep mine from leaking.

Alignments are not nearly as finite as I had once believed. We get people all the time with complaints that their cars pull to the left or right while the aligment machine reads the car within spec. There's really not much you can do when it get's that close without making it pull the other way or worse.

However, SloPony should have been found for this particular T-belt incident. They have been through this a number of times and will make sure it's done right. If you ever need directions again let me know I'll be happy to help.

As I found out later, the fire hazard thing is true, I was on my way to a movie when flames started coming out from under my hood. And, this was before I knew about the oil cap gasket fix. It was even before I was on here or knew much of anything about cars in gereral. I was just learning how to change oil then. I was more mad that they didn't advise me before just throwing them out. I just stuffed more rags in there after I left.

My main concern with the alignment is that Terry Winn's isn't known for their good mechanical work. I didn't know it at the time, but through other people's word, I found out later. At work we use a (literally) fifteen year old alignment machine. It's the type that looks like a really old Apple computer on a stand with electrical cords that connect to the heads (wheel mounts). The heads have been dropped several times and, by word of the alignment machine repair man, are really far out of spec. Despite this inadequacy, we still turn out very accurate alignments every day. At the time, Terry Winn's had a "top of the line" laser reflecting head alignment machine that was brand new. If we can do it with caveman tools, why couldn't they do it with space-age machinery?

I'm not arguing that the people you delt with may lack some expertise. I am stating that no matter how well you align someones car you will always have someone that feels their car pulls to one side or the other. There are many other variables to take into consideration such as tire presures, tire wear, crowning of the road and such.

BTW - We use a machine that sounds incredibly similar to yours. There is no pleasing everyone and on an alignment I've found 'close' (within specs) is close enough to keep tire wear down and the vehicle driving in a straight line without much effort.
