That seems a little familiar to me too! Pull like a beast to 4k and then fall on its face...

That is exactly what it felt like. Right before i shifted it just "klunked out" (if that's a word). It didn't stall the car ...it was as if the engine just said "enough" for about .005 secs

If ya hand a camaro it's ass , it's just that a" camaro"! If ya tempt it with a well built Z28 or at that sleeper camaro , you might want to respect !! I should Know first hand ,I had an 80 Z28 that ran mid 10's in a 1/4 . But that was back in late 89 -92.
If I had a chance to do the same car again I would! Don't under estimate the other car until its all siad and done! Good luck and be safe!

No, I've taken out a whole array of Z28s and other worthy V8 cars. It's hard for an NA to match the pull of a turbo on the top end. A Vette has been the only thing I've come across on the street that's given me a good challenge. I'm not saying the DSM is untouchable by any means, but it's funny to me that you have to soup up a V-8 to compete with a stock 4 banger. And I'm not into comparing my daily driver to a fully built drag car. That's not apples for apples.

Are you sure that the Z28's and other V8's were worthy or up to the task?
Some guys have a tendency to think that some exhuast work makes a difference
with the V8. My moto with V8 cars and trucks is " Does it run as good as it sounds?" This is the exact reason for the mods to my fullsize truck! I do believe that a four banger can out run alot of v8 cars. Many years ago ,back in my late teens,I built a screamin little 1.9 four bager . I was stuned by how well it performed. Porting, polishing, cam, intake, carb, exhuast, tranny, clutch, 4.11 factory gears. With this tight lillte set up ,I put a major hurtin on a lot of my friends that had small blocks and big blocks. So with that in mind anything is possible in my eyes! By the way that car was built kinda as a joke . But with the rep that my older brother had before he passed away, I had to follow in his footsteps when it came to biulding cars! If ya ever talk to some guys that ran Mahomet back in the 80's they would Know who this person is . To sum this up ! Anything is possible ! I am very impressed with what has evolved with the import scene. V8,V6,4 Banger, Turbo, non turbo, Its all good!! Enjoy what ya have, wish for what ya don't have yet !!

This is for Rinkle Wall, As far as what has been describedasmy truck, someone has mis communicated the info. Meaning the very first post! Yes my fullsize 4x4 is fast for what it is ! Yes I have done a lot to it ! Do I need educacted on the Import scene ? Im sure that some of these lil imports that I have smoked were possers!
I have smoked several other 2whl & 4whl trucks and have had fun doing it!!
The Import World is something that has sparked my intrest !! So to set it straight , YES, I do need educated, But in the possitive way!! Hands on ,or something close to that!! Have I seen a Imoprt spin tires at 100mph? NO ! I am curious of what the DSM Crew has to offer !! I have been a chevy man since i can remember! I started working on cars at 10 years old & now in my thirties. I have seen cars do tire shakes at 100 + mph. Lucky for me , my past car and current truck just keep pullin! I can say top end on my truck is above 140 mph! It can get a lil scarry above that due the floating syndrome !! I'm not a negative type of guy , so to knock Imports , I will not !! Respect them I will !! But as anybody would say
"Respct is earned "!! You sound like a straight forward type of guy and I respect that!! And thankyou for the Welcome!! biggthumpup.gif

I appreciate your kind words. I think it is awesome that you harbor no ill will towards the import crew, such open-mindedness is rare in a domestic-oriented person. As for your relative need of a hands-on education, trust me, there is much to be learned on this site.

I have been working on these cars for about 8 years now, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. If I cannot answer, there are fifteen others who likely can. You really need to get a DSM, they're cheap and plentiful. If you're located in C/U, you may see quite a bit of me this season, as KOU Motorsports has been so good as to sponsor my efforts this season, and I'll be in Tolono quite a bit. You should come out to the shop and check it out.

To keep up the second discussion in this thread... I was getting spark blowout after running too lean and melting the plugs pretty severly. With a gap so large you could not even measure it the spark was blowing out at around 4k. Lesson learned about AFR...

pardon me for not reading the entire thread, but is this truck Red? I remember going at it a while back with a red chevy that had "so sweet, cant be beat on the back window", it was fullsize single cab. This was right after i had gotten the turbo upgrade, and everything was still way out of tune, but we messed around a bit on neil. Once the turbo got spooling I caught up with him, but down low my car just couldnt muster anything up. It was surprisingly fast, but by no means was my car a "fast" dsm, especially in those days.

Just thought i'd post for once in my life. Cya round boys, Still lookin for a new ride, but in no hurry.

My truck is green over silver ex-cab 4x4 . He is right I work for a local bottling company , delivering pop! I'm sure some of you guys from C/U have seen me around and working ! I'm not sure who it is in the red Chevy truck ! If I get a chance at him I'll give him a good run! That is just for kicks ofcourse !
Don't mean to be rude or anything Haunter, but I don't want to give up info like that on a site that anybody can read ! Ya know ! Incriminate myself ! not to offend anyone!! But my job depends on me to drive for a living.
Rollout : Its possible to find find me on neil every once in a while , but , keep in mind I could have my 5yr. old with me !! She loves to ride in my truck , so if I don't play, don't be disappointed ! If ya do see me in that situation at least let yourself be known ! Oh one other thing my lil girl can cut a mean street tree!! biggthumpup.gif Bad habit I taught her !!
