hey guys,

I was looking at this EVO VIII FMIC that I plan to install on the GSX.

now when I was in Iraq I had stumbled upon a guys documentary on this install... I have since lost it and don't even know where to start.

I know that the first thing I need to do is remove the front bumper and disconect/remove the stock side mount. anyone try this or see any documentation on the easiest way to do this.

I would really like to see some guidence before I start cutting and hacking parts that I do not have to.

ok guys, here is where I am at...

got the old side mount removed (BTW.... it is now for sale and looks really good)

but now I am trying to get the FMIC mounted.... damn, what a mess... looks like I have to hack on the bumper to make it fit (anyone have a sawzall???)

also, how the hell is this plumbing going to have to fit???

I looked at the stock plumbing on an EVO today and since the intake manifold is reverse of the GSX intake, do I need to turn the FMIC back side forwards so that the boosted air flows through the intercooler properly???

I don't see any other way of doing it cause mounting the intercooler forward would cause me to run the plumbing next to my exhaust header (counter productive).

this is a lot more labor intensive than I expected.... and BTW... how many damn bolts and clips are required to hold on a bumper cover??? I think I broke at least 7 of them.

LOL, I don't believe you have to switch it around. Design should be uniform for both sides. Most people DO run the intercooler plumbing by the exhaust manifold. It's about the only way you can do it.

ok guys... I just read here "The Intake plenum can be mounted in either direction, so installation is possible on a stock DSM or a tube-frame car." so does that mean that I could turn the stock intake around so that it would mate with the intercooler plumbing the same way it does on the EVO.... (I don't think it possable, but worth a ask).
or would I have to spend the cash on the mach v intake manifold to take advantage of that???

Ben

Why would you want to run the intake manifold in the same direction as the EVO8? I don't think that's even possible being that you've got all the belts and everything on the left side of the car there and literally no room for intercooler piping. The main portion of the FRH intake you linked to is unboltable from the intake runners, giving tube chassis (I.E. probably RWD cars) easier access to the intake if that's the way they've got it setup.

Try running it like this http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=1...7c6b5bfa8f77c26

That's the way most people do it. Here's a link to the J-pipe you'll need in order to make an easy transfer to go from the turbo compressor housing to the drivers side portion of the intercooler. About 3/4 the way down the page, 1G FMIC J-pipe.

Well, yes and no. If you want the FMIC to hang out from under the bumper and look goofy, then no. If you want it to sit above the bumper and fill the opening, then yes. You'll also need to flatten the hood hinge support in order for the FMIC to sit right.

Here:
http://www.plymouthlaser.com/fmic.htm
http://www.plymouthlaser.com/fmic2.htm

It's a two-webpage documentary so take your time reading it.
