this lady at work is looking for a car for her kid. her and her husband have narrowed it down to a toyota or a honda.

he's not into super upgrading or anything so they'er just looking for a good car.

i personally have had an 88 camery and a 91 camery and they worked great as beginer cars.

so i'm looking for an UN-molested camery or honda (civic) that's in good condition.

they're looking at milage between 80,000 and 100,000 and a cost of $5k or less

Toyota's Tercel and Corolla shouldn't be bad options... good luck finding them for sale. That rather speaks volumes about them right there ...

I had a buddy who bought a 93 camry with 115k on it 8 years ago. He drove it for 5 years and sold it to another buddy when it had 215k on the odometer. It's still running smooth as the day it was made. No smoking. No engine rebuild. at 150k he replaced the belts and hoses. Never cracked the block open (or head) for anything. No experience with the Honduhs.

MY .02

Also, has anyone ever realized the "factory smell" on toyota's remain for the life of the car? that 93 had the same showroom smell when he bought it. And it remained the whole time he had it. How is that?

the only reason i got rid of the 88 is because the rust was eating through well...everything and there was some internal damage to the engine.

I've got a 99 Mazda 626 at work, 76k miles in your price range, Auto trans, 4 cylinder.

OR, a 1997 Plymouth Breeze (same as Stratus) 30k miles, Auto, 4 cylinder, well under what you're looking to spend.

I have to say that, even though I dog honda owners who rice out their cars.... the unmolested ones run for fricken ever..... working at a honda dealer, I see a lot of unmolested older civics and accords and such with 200+K on the clock.... almost none come in with major repairs.....

so if you need a good running daily driver that can be had cheap and will continue to service you for years to come, get a honda.... if you balls out AWD power, get a DSM

wow..now this is weird.

this morning the engine in our 91 camry seized. toast. dead.

SO....anyone know of someone who can either locate and replace a toyota engine or sell me an unmolested 4 door car? (it's my moms car so nothing hot rodded haha)

i don't think "balls to the wall" applies to her either
