I have a 91 laser 2.0 non turbo. all thats done is header, down pipe, and i got a intake tube from a friend but stock filter. its rebuilt and has about 55,ooo on the motor now. i was wondering if anyone had some ideas for good power. plus one of my valves are ticking and i think my syncroes are out. i can't shift into second and its hard into third sometimes. i live in mackinaw, i read somewhere that you guys go to cordova a lot, and a lot of members are located in illinoise.

in all honesty, youd be better off just buying a turbo 1g than throwing money at that

Welcome! If your looking for speed dont throw any more money at that thing, put it back to stock level, sell your exhaust & intake, make a few bucks. Then dump the car for a few Franklins and use it for a turbo car. If your looking for reliability watch out! Your in for a ride. But either way, paying for someone to fix internal engine, and trans problems your going to be better off just buying a decent 1G. How long have you been in debt
.. I mean owned your DSM now?

I knew those replies were coming... In all honesty though you can probably make 5 and 10 hp gains with bolt-ons but to get the real power you want a turbo. I think that you will find that most of the active posters on this board are power hungry and will have the same view. If you have that friend with a Cavalier that you are just dying to beat, and will be forever satisfied, then you are a special case.
You have the same block as the turbo models but your internals, in most cases, won't stand up very long to a turbo or nitrous. If you are one of those people that love their car because of some sentimental attachment then you could rebuild (again) with new rods and pistons and slap a turbo on. That or you could even swap in a turbo shortblock. Is it worth it? Only if you really love the car. On another note, Welcome to DSMCentral And who the hell would live in Mackinaw!... oh yeah... I do Since as taxi mentioned, DSMs are not known for their reliability, you will likely see me getting around town in a blue and silver S10 Xtreme or green Saturn Vue. Are you the guy with the 'Drive it like you stole it" windshield banner? -------------------- Fast & Furious on the outside...DSM under the hood!!!

Having turbo'd a nonturbo car I can tell you that it is a big pain. Spyder is very right, pretty well everyone on here will tell you to either turbo what you have or get a turbo car. The simple reason for that being your maximum horsepower potential is roughly the same as what a turbo car makes stock. Its all up to you on how you want to go about things though.
Anyway, welcome to the group. -------------------- GVR4 866/1000 = the perpetually broken car

Welcome. I pretty much agree with what's been said already, so I won't beat that horse (I'll beat my wife instead.) Most all of us are in central IL, and yes we do frequent Cordova. Have fun, and don't drop the soap in the shower.

Thanks for the post, but i am a poor poor man. i i don't think i could sell it then buy a turbo. I work at the morton wal mart in the automotive department so i don't make much money. no my car does not have a banner on it, it is a red laser rs and it has steel rims. I am looking for a set of alloys, stock or whatever don't care, just so i could shave some wieght off. i am also looking for a fiberglass hood. it has been reliable so far. except for the tranny and the valve is ticking for somereason. Does anyone know where i could get it rebuilt??? i know its not going to be a monster on power but i think i will havefun with this car as far as putting my stamp on it you know what i mean.
