well i put the aem big brakes on. my problem is that the rotors are rubbing the lca. i didnt think there was a difference between the awd and fwd lca's, but am i wrong??
i took a grinder to the lca's and removed a little bit of material and that helped alot with the rubbing. but didnt totally eliminate it. the only thing i can figure is that since my car is dropped 2.5" and dropping a dsm gives positive camber, i need to get a camber kit and give myself some negative camber any thoughts or input would be appreciated! one thing is for sure.. it was definitely a good upgrade.. stops a hell of alot better! btw, does anyone know who aem sold the design to? i wanna get replacement rotors for it |

I think you mean dropping a DSM gives it negative camber. Negative is when the top of the wheel leans into the car. I could see a camber kit helping though as it should straighten out the wheels a bit. Glad to hear you like it. That gives me another idea for a forum improvement. A part review section.

everything i have read is that dropping a dsm gives you positive camber.
i know the difference between positive and negative camber. i have positive camber. my tires wear more on the outside than the inside. i have contacted aem, but havent heard back from them yet.. hopefully they will be able to give me some idea but yea, the brakes are awesome! no fade at all! here is a pic ![]() |

That's weird. Every DSM I've ever owned or seen that has been dropped has negative camber.

Nice wheels and tires too!!!
![]() Wierd though about the positive camber. Given the geometry of the suspension, the control arm stays the same length (because we haven't changed it) but the strut assembly shortens due to the shortened spring height. This "should" result in negative camber, or for those that don't know, when the wheels are slanted in at the top of the tire and out at the bottom. I don't understand how it could be different unless the springs actually made it taller. If you could post some of the sites where you got the information, maybe we could read over and review the findings for further scrutiny. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

i dunno... its been awhile.. i know lowering definitely effects the toe, but that wouldnt cause the rotor to rub the lca..
i'm lost for ideas.. ![]() |

i called aem. they sold the design to powerslot. so i called powerslot.. they have no idea how this could happen unless the offset of the hat is different. but that makes no sense as it lines up with the caliper perfectly. so i am just gonna have to pull the front end apart and do a little reverse engineering til i can figure out a fix.
what sucks is i cant put my stock brakes back on because i destroyed the rotors removing them.. people need to learn to use anti-sieze here is some rollbar pics to hold ya over til i figure out the problem ![]() ![]() |

Nice. The roll bar looks like a pretty good fit for being a bolt in.
I don't have any answers for you on the brake issue, but I had been wondering how the rotor can be hitting the lower control arm. There is very little equipment between the rotor mounting and the lower control arm. Not much there to change to cause contact...So i don't understand how it could happen. 2.5" drop is a whole lot on a 1G, but the control arm would have to be at a pretty severe angle to contact the lca wouldn't it? Does it hit on both sides? Does it appear that the lower controls arms are possibly damaged from some collision in the past? BTW - most 1G front rotors come off in pieces. They are fairly inexpensive though if you need to go back to stock temporarily. Good luck man. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Can you post a picture of the interferance? And maybe a general suspension shot showing the lower control arm angle?

What pads are you using? Not sure if you could use them or not but I have brand new front rotors and pads for my old '92 Eclipse GSX w/ABS. The cars long gone, so I have no need for them! |

you know on the camber thing... when I lowered my 1G GSX with eibach prokit springs and KYB struts, my front camber went slightly positive as well.... but the rear went way negative... a camber kit solved both problems, but strange as everything I know told me that my numbers were wrong, but no matter how many times I repositioned the heads on the alignment rack, it showed the same results.

well i thought i had fixed the problem, but i havent. since i sold the wheels i have had to take the brakes off to fit stock wheels back on it. i noticed with the car jacked up and the suspension fully extended, it still is very close. something is not right there! i did rotate the rotor and it looked like it was warped.. so i pulled it off and rotated the hub and it moved the same way.. bearings bad??
i am gonna pull the brakes off my awd parts car and slap a rotor on and see if it does the same thing.. perhaps there is a difference between the lca's on an awd and fwd.. i am gonna measure the arms and see if there is a difference.. if there is, then i guess i will be swaping out the control arms.. anyone with any input, throw it in! i am kinda wishing i hadnt sold my wheels now because i have to go back to my wimpy stock single piston calipers. i did get new stock rotors and carbon metallic pads.. i just need to remember when it comes time to brake that i dont have the monsters on there that lock on a dime another problem with going back to stock wheels is that my stocks have horrible tires.. all cracked. on my way to battle of the imports i blew one out doing 105mph.. good times! but i sure as hell aint driving on them things |
