Gotta say boys, I've worked for Advance for over a year now and our electrical parts leave a bit to be desired. The regular "cap 'n rotor" parts are fine but the alternators, starters, and electronic sensors are a wee bit on the el cheapo quality side. I guess they figure if they put a lifetime warranty on these things they can build them cheap and not worry how many times they get warrantied out.
Sounds to me like a bad electrical contact. I would start with the dry cell battery first. That is absolutely not a good contact point if it's spinning but won't tighten or loosen. I wouldn't rule out the bad alternator though is all I'm saying. At least you've got a warranty!! -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

Well I got the boost to hold up to 23-27psi with my puny Air compressor air. Much better than before.
I also found that tightening up the ground post was an easy repair. I didn't even take a test drive because after idling for less than two minutes, the interior lights flared up again. So I'm just going to pull the alternator out and return it. Hey Turbohcar are the 'new' alternator options better than the rebuild option that I bought at Advanced? -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Things are back on track now. Drove the Talon all night last night to work out any other bugs. Stopped by the spot for a couple hours and came home. It's amazing what a few minor maintenance items and a full tank of good gas will do!
Drove the Talon to work today as well... Dayum! Every once in a while I forget how fast 400+ WHP feels! I'm rockin the HP smile today. I would still like to get a better boost control set-up and do some fine tuning on a dyno, but for a daily driver this thing is docile and over-the-top all at the same time. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Hahaha...After dialing it in the power got the best of third gear the other day (No power shifting...just power). I'll be pulling the transmission out this morning to take over to have another SloPny re-build put on it.
On a side note I may go golfing here at Snag creek after the transmission is out. At that point it will be right in the heat of the day, so there wont be any crowds to deal with. I will also be available later this evening. Obviously Talonless, but if anyone wants to get together let me know. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

When I removed the transmission found that my Mitsu Throw-out bearing had fallen apart also. What's with the throw out bearings on these things. Even the good ones don't hold up.

Maybe. Josh is working on TJ's transmission first. He say's that he will have my transmission apart Tuesday. After that I will find out if I can get the necessary parts.
Got my fingers crossed. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Transmission is apart now.
Third gear has two teeth sheared off laying in the bottom of the t-mission. with the voice of Tim the Tool Man Tayler in my head I'm thinking... Oh Oh Oh! Yeah POWER! Ok back to the real world. The second gear and third gear synchros are a bit worn as well (Wonder how that happend). Come to find out I do NOT have a double second gear synchro. That would explain the eternity between 1st to 2nd gear shifts. Now what to do, what to do. I'll be looking through the wares at Jack's transmissions to see what looks good. Gonna have to order by Monday and hope they have what I need in stock if I'm going to make Slo Pny Drag Day. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

I found that TRE has stepped up to the plate that Jack's Transmissions set-up. TRE Now openly offers EVO-III gearing at lower prices than Jack's and they have them all in stock. Jon at TRE has worked well with me on this.
I've nearly gone FOOL bore and ordered 1st gear through 4th. 1st, 3rd and 4th are all new (taller) EVO-III gears and 2nd is a new std. double synchro 2nd gear. This will give me the strongest 1-4 gear set that I can possibly get in a standard DSM transmission and the double synchros on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th should really help me shave some time off of my E.T. The parts should be in today or Friday. Josh will get the transmission back together ASAP and I plan to have it back together and loaded on a trailer for Slo Pny Day by Saturday night. I hope this upgrade will allow me to shave off at least 1/2 of a second from my last E.T. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

You basically get a fully double syncroed EvoIII transmission gear set (minus 5th) for just under a grand. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I trash a gear. Good find! |

Sadly, the parts did not show up. So the talon won't be at Slo Pny Drag Day, but I still be there!

that's how it goes. It appears it was caused by a mix-up in PaPal addresses. I had two, one old and one current. Somehow the old one showed up on the order as unconfirmed which is a big no-no at TRE. I understand how they could have been burned many times shipping to unconfirmed addresses, so I don't blame them. I have already received an apologetic letter from Jon at TRE saying that he will have the parts sent out Monday. I'll hit the track at that point. Maybe even the dyno like I should for the final tune too.
All is good and TRE is coming through for me. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

I received the EVO-III transmission parts last night. I'll be taking them to Josh's after work to get the new and improved transmission re-assembled.
