QUOTE (black92_tsi_awd @ Jun 2 2008, 04:42 AM) good news! did you end up getting a parts store starter or did you find a used mitsu? Big bad $69 AdvanceAuto rebuilt unit. There were about three screws missing out of the back of the old starter, Guess it had seen better days. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

WOW! I think God just had mercy on my pour DSM soul!
After some test driving with the electrical fixed and the starter taken care of I seemed to be pushing coolant out of the system and the over flow! I just knew that my stock head gasket with the O-ringed head must have failed causing boost to enter the coolant system. Just to make sure my theory was correct, I borrowed Josh's CO2 tester for coolant. Yesterday I topped off the system and took it for a drive to try to add boost to the coolant for the test. When I got back I realized that my DUMB-ASS left the coolant cap off! AARGH! (For the record I have never done that before) Coolant was everywhere and I couldn't test the system with low coolant. So today I picked up another 16psi coolant cap from Advance Auto and restarted the test. Strangely the coolant was not boiling out this time. I used the tester 3 times with the same result every time. No CO2 in the coolant!!! It was the cap! If I had not left the cap off by accident or tried to test my head gasket theory, I would have changed the head gasket for no reason and still not found the problem! I never would have guessed that the cap was bad because I just replaced it a couple years back with a brand new Mitsubishi unit. Wow...am I happy, relieved and thankful!!! -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

good troubleshooting is the difference between a good technician and a parts changer... good job, glad to hear that after all of that, the fix was as easy as it was.

I installed my new Mitsubishi replacement Brake Booster hose this past week. There is definitely a one way valve in the hose. Something I had never realized before. I also installed a new home made MBC since I donated my last one to Josh's turbo Stang.
I understand the logic, but I am still amazed at how much more crisp and quick boost comes on now that it doesn't have to fill the brake booster up. Very nice. One of those things that I wish I had known and fixed a LONG time ago. It would have made a few of the closer races I've had over the past year less close. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Slo Pny Drag Day is the last Sunday in July.
I'm not sure I will have the Talon there though. I just posted up on e-bay here:http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29296-2357-0...63753723&lk Then again I might have it by then... Check out the first reply I received on the listing: i cant believe someone like u would post this for 9,000+++ !! r u out of ur mind? this car is older then dirt!! i cant even sell my 98'awd talon for that much and im pushing 360hp! plus its a much better body style>all i gotta say..noone will buy this car for this price" outragous' its a fuckin 92! ugliest body style ever... sorry i had to say somethin, this is ridiculous.. dont care how much ur pushing..its old' - liledweez11 Hahaha... This cracks me up! If it's a car that a person thinks is ugly and too expensive, why were they looking at it and why would they think that I give a rats ass about their opinion if their not going to make an offer?!?! What a jack ass that values their thoughts a lot more than I do! -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Wow... that was an ignorant reply.
Ignore it. Probably some kid without a car trolling eBay. -------------------- If the sound of a DSM in the distance rowing through the gears gives you a hardon, you might be a car enthusiast.

Here is an excerpt from CSS that I thought was cool:
awd4kicks: I Stopped by the Slo Pny garage the other day. Seen sohcgt96's car there on the lift getting some work done. Shot the shit for a while and gave him a ride in the four banger Talon for a little fix of what he's was missing since his Stang was on the operating table. Sohcgt96: And I'll freely and openly admit, that was a hell of a fun ride. Far and away the fastest thing with 4 cylinders I've ever ridden in, and when it wasn't being hammered on, there wasn't a single burp or hiccup or any sort of driveability issue. All around a badass street car. That always feels good coming from a Mustang owner. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Well, my e-bay sale ended with a lot of watchers and a few bids. The highest being $7000, but it was from someone with no feed back in New York State.
I'm going to drop my 'Buy it Now' (or best offer) price to $8,500 and re-list it tonight for 10 days. Wish me luck. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

I need to pay off a $7500 2nd mortgage loan, but I'd like to buy a power plant for the 65 Stang.

As much as I LUVVV the GM LS series of engines. My mind has rapped all it's creative juices around transplanting an 03-04 cobra engine into the 65 stang. After doing some measuring it almost appears that this is a marriage meant to be. The previous owner narrowed the front shock towers to fit a Cleveland 351 in it. Those engines are the double wide of small block Fords.
I have a 351 Windsor sitting in the garage ready for a rebuild, but to tell you the truth the basic simplicity of that engine is just not turning me on. I am a glutton for punishment because I must have to have complex power plants to keep my interest. (read 4G63) The 03-04 Cobra engine is all aluminum and good to 800HP. So it's as light or lighter than a small block Ford, but has the power potential of a Big block Ford that is too heavy for the front suspension on the ol' 65. Plus the newer more technical engine engine will have great street manors while having the power potential I long for. Hmmm I can't wait! -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Stay with the brand, dude. Get a FoMoCo motor.
I, too, enjoy the sophisticated awesomeness of the LSX motor, but I know Sitzmore will help you make some tremendous power with a Ford Small Block. -------------------- -The original (member) 007. Stop looking at me Spy!!

You could alway complicate it and throw a big turbo on it!!

If I went with a regular ol' small block Ford I planned to go with a Nitrous or turbo power adder. The small block it's self wouldn't have nearly enough power to make it worth the trouble for me.
The 03-04 Cobra engine is by far the most complicated domestic V8 engine made within the past few years. It also already has most of the power available in it's stock form. It will make in the neighborhood of 500crank HP with a simple pulley swap on the supercharger. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo
