Came across this block in some reading about the LSX motors chevy has put out, and that some of the dirt track people are trying to build solid LS7 type motors for late models. This block is basically your standard Small Block 400, built to take LSx heads.
For those that don't know, the difference in design between LS and SB heads basically allows for a lot higher and smoother airflow and combustion on the LS heads. I'm working on a spec motor just out of curiosity to see how much one would cost. Estimate roughly 575-600hp at 10:1 compression. http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engine...gine/index.html Block uses mostly stock components: Stock SB Crank Stock SB Rods Stock LS Pistons Stock LS Heads/Rockers Slightly modified LS Lifters Custom Pushrods SB Blank Cam with LS angle grind (Comp Cams) Wet/Dry Sump oiling Stock SB Pan Stock LS Intake/Exhaust manifolds Stock SB or LS Accessories. -------------------- 1978 Mustang II King Cobra

How about 500hp, 700lb of torque out of a turbo big block.. minimal investment. -------------------- Need a boost in the pocket book and with your health?

Lets define lots of weight? How much more does a big block weigh over an iron block lt1?

it's not a terrible amount, I exaggerated a bit. Just looking at World's crate motors, with iron block and alum heads you save about 120 lbs. That's roughly equiv HP, 427 SB vs 509 BB. Go to alum blocks and roughly the same weight savings, but only 475 lb SB vs 595 lb BB
So it's argueable either way. LS1/7 motors (all alum 427/481) drop to 425 lbs. Just depends on what you want to do with it. Much as I like V8's, I'd still probly take a lancer over a vette in road racing, whereas vette has better potential in drag (taking AWD out of the picture) -------------------- 1978 Mustang II King Cobra
