I just went and picked up my new talon last night, Red in color TSI AWD. To my surprise I found that the guy I made the deal with took alot more than what he told me he wanted. I had wanted to use it stricktly as a drag car and keep my blue one as a DD.
He told me he wanted all the interior and some fuse blocks under the hood. Well... He got that and then some. I can't even try to start it no keys, ecu, radiator, cut the wires on the main fuse block under the hood and took it. I didn't mind him taking the interior, because that was just one thing I didn't have to remove to get it ready for my project. I'm just going to make this LONG story short. I didn't get what I thought I was going to get. I feel I got screwed on my finders fees. When a man tells you he wants this this and this. That is what you would expect for him to take no more no less. This has just been eating me since I got home with it and found all this. He also got the four best wheels, Which would have been no problem if they were all the aluminum. He took my winter wheels and left me with three stock aluminum and a steely. No fourth aluminum anywhere to be found. So now in the winter I have to run my aftermarkets. I also gave him a rebuilt JDM throttle body. Now if I had known he was going to come and strip it for what it's worth, I would not have offered what he got from me. So now what do I do with it? Do I scrap it out and sell what I can sell? Or do I try to put it back together? I do know that I am going to sell the sun roof out of it. I am just in AHH at what I found, As I love these cars. If any of you want to see pics before he got ahold of it let me know by PMing me your email address. Let me know what you think guys. -------------------- |

^^^ HUH? ^^^
Caveat Emptor (Latin, “let the buyer beware”), principle applied in early common law that the buyer of defective goods could not hold the seller legally responsible. The theory of the early common law was based on the assumption that the buyer was able to examine the goods for any obvious defects, and that if the goods had latent defects of which the seller was unaware the buyer should bear the loss. Under modern law, however, the rule of caveat emptor does not apply to the sale of goods. The rule instead is that the seller is deemed to make an implied warranty that the goods are reasonably fit for the purpose intended by the buyer. Goods that are defective may be sold without legal liability if the fact is brought to the attention of the buyer. The rule of caveat emptor is sometimes used in modern law in reference to a real estate sale in which the seller does not specifically state that the title to the real estate is clear. In such sales, which usually are conducted under supervision of a court in bankruptcy or mortgage foreclosure, or in other judicial proceedings, the buyer takes the risk of acquiring a defective title. I understand now. And no title to the damn thing either! Do I have to have a title for it to drag it? Probly yes for insurance reasons, HUH? And yes Miami I am a dumbass and have already been told that from me ole'lady. -------------------- |

At least a straight-up communication (verbal or black and white) about how disappointed you are at the difference between what he said he was taking and what he did take. I don't know nothin' 'bout your parts car vs. drag car conversation though. You might ignore all my input, actually - not in a damned good mood today ... *LOL* Sorry to hear man - hang in there! -------------------- ... she likes bein' forced ...

Thanks for the offer Joe, But it's not the interior I am worried about. I was just going to put 1 seat in it anyways. That's why I had no problem doing this for this guy. I thought I was getting a rolling chassy w/me being able to take it home and see if I could get it to run. Now if I want to get it to run I have to spend alot more money than just a CAS would cost. This is the link that started it all http://www.dsmcentral.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=3627 And Joe thank you once again for the offer on the seats. I do have the back seats up for sale also, If anyone is interested. -------------------- |

I'm sure the "ole'lady" told you you were more than a dumbass....
If you were going to make it into a trailered drag car (engine only wiring, no lights, aftermarket gauges etc), it might be worth dicking around with. But he sure didn't leave you much of anything, money wise it might be better to part it out. Putting it back to a street legal car might be tough. -------------------- 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD "The Black Golfball" How fast can a 14B go???

If you want to drive it to the track, I'd say part it out. If you're going to make it a drag only trailer queen, then it may be worth it to keep.
Why didn't you back out on it if it wasn't as described? Personally, if someone were to take my money, and then try to screw me, there would be baseball bats and broken appendages included at no extra cost if he didn't give me my money back. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

If your goal is a pure drag car you aren't in that bad of shape. Just keep in mind that most of the stuff he took can be found pretty cheaply if you need to replace it. It will just take a little more effort and a few trips to the junkyards.

It will just take a little more effort and a few trips to the junkyards. thats exactly what I was going to say... unless of coarse, you don't plan to trailer the car.... as far as a title is concered... only nessessary if you plan to drive it on the streets. take this as a lesson learned... wait for him to strip the car of the parts that he wanted before you inspect and decide to buy.... if he wants parts after you inspect, then re-inspect before trailering it home. sorry to hear what happened, hang in there bud and try talking to the guy... maybe if you confront him, he will give the parts back to you..... most people don't like confrontation and will buckle if pressured a little. you might want to take a fried along with that is big enough to pull you off of him after he tells you to F*** Off. good luck, Ben -------------------- You CAN sleep in your car, but your CAN NOT race your house!!!

I was just out in the garage gandering at it. It would be a good car to trailer. It don't have any computers in it at all. I know i can pick up a reasonable ecu. But there is one that sets behind the drivers seat that I'm not sure about. It is in behind the interior panels. And as far as wiring I have some here from when I bought my JDM motor. They were nice enough to pull the whole wireing system for me .
The car was born June 1990. -------------------- |

OK, I have decided to make it into a trailer car. This one might not come out of the garage for a while.
Thanks for your opinions on this and I will post picks of my progress. -------------------- |

So, what exactly did you pay for, Budman. The way I understand it, it didn't cost you a dime. I've been in contact with this guy, and I gotta side with him. He drove from Nebraska to Illinois, paid a couple hundred bucks for the car, and stripped everything needed to get his stolen car back on the road. Then he gave you the rest in exchange for four rims, two of which were bent on the bead lip (probably from a curb-check) and one that the paint is so bad it should go to the scrap heap. That's the way it happened, isn't it? Tell the truth.
What did you get out of the deal? Seems to me like quite a bit for nothing. Sell the intake, sell the cylinder head, sell the transmission, sell the engine block, sell the turbo... want me to go on?! You got a hell of a lot more for those four crappy rims that you would've had you tried to sell them on the open market. You didn't get screwed, so stop whining. Oh, and as for this "Caveat Emptor" stuff, it doesn't apply in your case anyway, because you didn't drop dollar one. You got stuff for free. How can you cry about that?! TJ |
