I'm in the home stretch on Frankenstein (yeah I know, we've all heard this before)! The modified t3/t4 manifold showed up at my door this AM. It's time to finally bolt up that 50 trim. I can't wait. biggthumpup.gif

For anyone that wants a peek, I posted one in the gallery here:
http://www.dsmcentral.com/gallery/view_alb...bumName=album43

Should have one soon without the wastegate flange and set-up for a Mitsu turbine housing as well for testing/comparison purposes

Now it's time for some wintertime outdoor wrenching. Woohoo rolleyes.gif

That looks real sweet. When should we expect the 420A test manifold?

Check your PM's. The cast version is here (40% thicker than a rev hard casting). I sent you an e-mail with pics of both too. biggrin.gif

Nice Travis..Are you doing these for other applications too?? The mx6's cast manifold is a real bitch to punch out and I think something over stock will really help me with this thing smile.gif

As much as I'd like to say this is my fab work, I'm more the fitment guy on the DSM end. (stumbled into it, there are plenty on here more far more qualified than me)

I can offer a little advice on the production end but don't have any real decision making power there. Most of the prototype work goes into making pieces that can support a relatively large production run. I've had a couple questions like this though so I'm checking into the possibility of getting some custom work like this done.

I do know that the cast manifold is surprisingly expensive to get into production so there would be a better chance at a tubular stainless piece. I don't want to overstate my involvement or influence here though. Shoot me a PM if you have time with some turbo Mazda forums or some numbers estimates as far as demand and I'll see what I can do if you want.

Are you going to do a before and after dyno test with the manifold against the tubular header? To be frank, I wouldn't be interested unless I saw proven dyno results. I'm also interested in the price.

The dyno test is definately in the works. A dyno on a T3/T4 version isn't going to do much good since it won't have a baseline manifold for comparison. I've been pushing for delivery of a spare Mitsu flanged one to me for testing. If anyone is comfortable enough with their welding to change the T3/T4 flange to a Mitsu flange, I have a spare non-gated manifold to donate to the process. Otherwise it'll be a few weeks I'm guessing on the Dyno results.

I think legitimate dyno numbers would keep this from turning into another Pace Setter fiasco. Not that I was in on that product but if you've read the thread on DSMtalk you know what I mean. FRH brought their dyno sheets to the table when their manifold hit the market and it was huge for them (I know it was an intake not ex-man but IMO, the same principle applies).

As a Garrett based manifold I think it has merit regardless. But I think we'd need dyno sheets to convince people to switch over from their tried and true 2G ex-man's for the Mistu turbos.

Pricing hasn't been set yet. I do know what cost is but not sure what the retail will be. Sorry for all the vagueness there. I'm pushing a bit for dyno testing, pricing and production schedules but I'm not even a big cog in this production process.

So, anyone up for some grinding and welding?

KOU,

As we discussed before I will be open to testing the header on the dyno with a Mitsu flange. As you know at Slo-Pny we also have the ability for profesional fabrication and welding if needed.

My vehicle should be ready in about a month.

Sounds like a plan for some dyno time. If I can't get a 'fresh' Mitsu flanged manfold by the time you are ready, I'll bring the current extra one there and we can swap flanges, and head to the dyno to get some numbers.

I think we should do the same thing with the 420A going from cast to stainless. Just an idea.
