QUOTE (AWD DSM 1 @ Nov 28 2005, 02:57 PM) Be careful which garage you take it too. I've heard more stories about garage screwing up timing belts and not fessing up than I care to think about. I can give personal testimony to a shop absolutely screwing up the job and overcharging me for it as well. Once I got the car back and fixed the problems myself, I realized how easy it actually is to change that belt. It's a pain, no doubt, but nothing overly complicated. Don't be skurrred! ![]() Oh, the shop that "fixed" my car didn't know to sync the balance shaft behind the oil pump pully. It made for some nasty vibes and an exploded crank pully assembly. ![]() ![]() -------------------- QUOTE (gsxracer80 @ Oct 31 2006, 12:41 AM)
thanks hcar.... I am still massaging that area trying to get it ready... ![]() |

I can attest to it not being that difficult. Ive gone through it countless times (and a new head) on my gsx before i got it right. If your doing it by yourself, its 100x easier if you get the timing belt tensioner tool. Its like 20 bucks if i remember right. The hardest thing about it was getting the stupid plastic cover off, gotta get a bit creative on which sockets you use to get to some of the bolts. And remember to loosen the water pump pully bolts BEFORE taking the belts off. Other than that, get the parts you need and its not too bad. I can get it tore down and back together in an hour after doing it a dozen times.

I can attest to Rob's DSM capabilities. He is the ultimate go-to guy when it comes to this type of work. Just this fall he helped me with a complete headgasket, waterpump, radiator, coolant hoses, ARP headstuds, and timing belt tensioner job. I don't like doing it by myself, but I do like helping in every aspect. Rob was pretty respectful of this and asked for my help throughout the project. We had to line up the cam gears several times but, after the fourth or fifth time, we got it right. I reccomend at least having someone knowledgeable stand over you if you're going to attempt it yourself. Things you might consider while the T-belt is off
new timing belt tensioner new water pump new crank pulley dampener new belts Most of those things are easier while the T-belt is off or you take them off anyway. Let us know how it goes and good troubleshooting on the BISS and timing deal! -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

Not anything all that funny, I just remember being at your place when you were putting a head on the old race car and just happened to see a piece of lettuce in the cylinder after taking a burger break.
