I was wanting to know how much of a pain, or if it's possible to do an awd swap? I might be getting a 95 fwd gs-t. Is it possible to do a swap on this car to make it awd?

personally I wouldn't do it.... I'd wait for a few months for a good deal on an awd...

it's a lot of work, unless you've got a bomb deal on the fwd, and a bomb deal on all the awd parts..... not worth the time and money imho....

be patient...

or else... have fun. good luck.

Does the donor car have to be the same year as the 95? I have a 90 awd will the parts from it work?
I'm just trying to get all my ducks in order before I try to deal on this car.

No, the 1g suspensions are a lot different than the 2g's.

I agree with xian on this one. You'd better be getting a killer deal on that car to even attempt it. AWD's can be found for just as good of deals, and you save yourself hours of work and probably hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars.

looks like the DSM bug has offically bit you... looking at buying your 3rd DSM already! laugh.gif

I remember Road Race Engineering trying this and saying it was the biggest pain in the butt thing they've ever done on a DSM. That's says a lot coming from them. I'm with Xian and AWD DSM, I'd hold out for a good deal on an AWD.

I do believe I will hold out for the AWD. As my donor car won't work.

I think turbotrix does this swap a lot. I once sold a rolling chassis 2g to a guy who was having them do the work on his Spyder. Then again, he paid like 2K in parts and another 2K or maybe less in labor. I guess nothing is very difficult if you're willing to spend enough money. This was 2 years or more ago though and I'm sure the price of 2g rollers has dropped through the floor compared to what I charged him.

Consider the cost of:

A 2G AWD transmission
transfer case
driveshaft
complete rear suspension/subframe assembly complete w/ rear end, axles, hubs, struts...
then several hours in fabrication

One big PITA!

I know that I am beating a dead horse here, but I say sell your donor car, save the money you planned to use on the 2G FWD and buy a good AWD chassis or a nice AWD turnkey

I had an offer for my 91. I put it up for 2 95s, 1 manual and 1 auto. The auto is the parts car.
I don't know it was just a thought.

The auto has interior missing and the motor is cashed. I've already changed my mind. I don't want a fwd.
The guy wants $3500 for both.
