Hey guys, I just purchased a black 2g, its a great car but I have one problem with it. No sunroof and I desperately want a sunroof. biggrin.gif

Manual would work for me, but power would be fantastic. Anyone have any experience on how much it costs to have one installed? Any reputable shops? Any Recommendations?

I was thinking about making a trip to the junkyard and sawzalling the roof of a sunroof'd car and taking the whole peice to the bodyshop where they could cut and weld the sunroof portion of the roof onto my car. How realistic is this? Any cost estimates from anyone who has experience with bodywork?

I just need to get one from somewhere somehow..any help will be appreciated. biggthumpup.gif

Go buy a car with a sunroof. Seriously, it's not worth the time and effort to do any of that. Not to mention that the aftermarket ones don't usually fit right and they ALWAYS leak. OEM sunroofs are the only decent ones and really, it'd be waaay too much work to transplant one from another car for what it's worth. I guess just my opinion though. If you're overflowing with cash it might be worth it to you.

Some more food for thought: the factory sunroofs have a reinforced frame around them just for that application, and you will be doing without. It's just a lot of problems and headaches, but I'll never be the one to tell you not to do it. If that's what trips your trigger, then jump all over it!

On my 1g, it had an aftermarket sunroof installed sometime in the early-mid 90's...

One day when I was driving it, I opened my sunroof @ about 35mph and the whole thing just SHATTERED ..

Long story short, I went 3 months throughout the summer with a GIANT hole in my roof...Ended up flooding my car 5 times when it rained...

Later on, I met a guy that with a modded Audi TT that I hung out with...One day I found out that he worked at an Upholestry/Sunroof shop, and he checked my roof out...

Long story short, I had to get an ENTIRE NEW unit, $400 retail which I got with a 'family/friend' discount of $250...

Its pretty expensive work man, I say just leave the car the way it is!
