Anyone have any advice or pointers on installing new crank bearings? My buddy just got his block and crank back from Kalina. Thanks.

Make sure you clean everything really well. Even if Kalina said it was clean, clean it again with engine brushes. Every galley.
I usally just plastic gauge to check the clearances. -------------------- 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD "The Black Golfball" How fast can a 14B go???

Kalina ordered the bearings. They had to grind the crank due to crankwalk and three pistons spun rod bearings.

I would still check the clearances to make sure they ground it right. I super anal when it comes to engine building though.
I've always read that your not supposed to grind the cranks due to the nitriding treatment. I did see that some think it ok as long as the fillets are done correctly. -------------------- 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD "The Black Golfball" How fast can a 14B go???

Ok thanks Chris. I have never done this or anything with the bottom end. The kid that ownes the motor said he would do it but he knows less than me. I told him to have Kalina put it together. Kalina also balanced it so i dont see why he wouldnt have them put it together for him.

I've always read that your not supposed to grind the cranks due to the nitriding treatment. I did see that some think it ok as long as the fillets are done correctly. I know with stock car engines they grind them all the time. Now I don't know if they resurface or anything afterwards. But Clevite makes several different sizes of Main/Rod bearings to fit various different clearances due to grinding. But I agree, ALWAYS check your clearances, it only takes a couple extra minutes and that way you know for sure it's good. -------------------- 1978 Mustang II King Cobra
