so my brother recently acquired a new talon. when he got it the car had a slight miss I thought ok I should be able to take care of it. picked her up got it home. checked out the plugs 3 were ok. 1 had the tip completely blown off. I thought wow this is prlly the problem. threw in some bpr6es and away she went smooth as can be.

now the problem, no more than 36 hrs later car comes back 3 tips GONE 1 tip smashed to zero gap. car barely runs and does not like boost at all. only known problems with the car is an exhaust leak. I saw what look like some signs of a bad head but have not narrowed it down yet. I'm wondering if this is something any of you guys have seen before and had any solutions.

I'm also wondering if anyone has a logger I can borrow to throw on the car and see what comes up on it.

its a neat trick let me tell ya. Motor turns brand new day old plugs and takes the tip of them its pretty neato blink.gif

Anyone want a 90 awd that does tricks lol
1400 and I'll throw in a good block with a spun bearing and a box of goodies including a set of 450's, mas, flywheel, fuel rail, egr and other randomness. Even some cam gears and a alternator that needs to rebuilt.
soccerdude61587
And i can even scrounge up a coffee can FULL of all the bolts from a 6bolt including lifters and such.
soccerdude61587
dsms suck man they suck donkey **** dry.gif Id check compression and timing if i had the tools im just a newbie to this whole broke down car thing biggrin.gif Even after i dont know how to use a timing light properly. And this broke down car thing sucks.
soccerdude61587
I threw new plugs in and nuttin mad.gif If worse comes to worse id part it out. Id get more out of that than your offer there spy tongue.gif
97TalonTSI
Does the car run at all right now? I would like to look at it.
soccerdude61587
It runs as it sits.
97TalonTSI
So in other words. It will not move?
soccerdude61587
she runs and moves she doesnt run very well under throttle but idling shes fine.
soccerdude61587
Or if you want the car offer me a new ride. And we can work out other details. Something reliable and gets some good gas mileage and looks decent. Most likely a that other car that we shall not name.

PM sent. PLease reply.

Sounds like the head may have been milled too much? blink.gif Sounds like pistons are hitting the plugs, which is never a good thing.

Suggestion to a newb... don't part it out. You have no idea how much crap is really in one of those things... laugh.gif The money can be ok, but you have to dick with 10,000 boxes, shipping, internet flakes, and so much more. I'd suggest trying to fix her... if it's in good shape, it's worth a whole lot more that way!! biggthumpup.gif

LOL. I thought about that. But wouldnt it hit the valves first?
AWD DSM 1
Possibly... might be running super lean too... might want to check the fuel filter.

Seems to me if the cam timing is correct the valves should be closed when the piston is at TDC. But I'm still not sure if the head can actually be milled down so much that the piston makes contact with the spark plug before hitting even closed valves. The spark plug electrode doesn't protrude very far into the combustion chamber.

thanks for the purple people eater there rob
AWD DSM 1
Thanks for the white broke a$$ DSM there Ryan.... biggthumpup.gif
soccerdude61587
Like i said earlier atleast they sit pretty laugh.gif Hopefully its not sitting for long with the box of goodies i got ya.
smrtkd69
justin if you didn't figure out a fix for your plugs yet try backing them off about a turn or so after they are snug it is not a great fix but if it works put it in like that with some loc tite until you can afford a new head. i did it on my last cherokee to keep it from slapping the plug and closing the gap on piston number 6.

and soccer, what kind of dsm do you have year? model? body and int? miles? i might be interested pm me with more if it is indeed for sale
soccerdude61587
its sold to Rob now it was a 90 AWD. What it turned out to be was that headgasket blew and it bent a valve or piston was toast. Compression on the #2 cylinder = goose egg.
AWD DSM 1
Sorry, It's sold! biggrin.gif Sits real nice in my garage!!! biggthumpup.gif Unsure of what actually happened, but hope to have the head off soon...
AWD DSM 1
Finally got around to pullign the head tonight... I'll try to post some pics later, but basically the #2 cylinder ate a chunk of intake valve... yum! yum! tongue.gif
twisted ranger
That's funny, my 90 AWD just ate a chunck of exhaust valve.
AWD DSM 1
Actually it was exhaust valve... looks like all the cylinders tried munching on something... unsure.gif Nothing made it though the turbo though, no marks on any of the fins.
soccerdude61587
mmm exhaust valves taste good. are you gonna build this one up there rob?
AWD DSM 1
Depends on what I can find to put it in.... biggthumpup.gif

HUH blink.gif your not gonna replace the motor? Do enlighten us!! O and did you happen to find what i was looking for?
soccerdude61587
Since im in search of a new car what is your guys opinion of the stealth tt? Ive heard from many its too fat and sluggish. Either that or i join spy and give him a run in the lt1 category.

Found the chassis a nice home with a guy in Rockford. Rest has taken up residence in my garage for the moment. wink.gif

3S cars are heavy, but they can make the powAr.

For my money, if I were to start a fresh project, it would be a single turbo V8, Fox chassis notchback, or LT1 F-body ($$ purposes). Easy, simple, fast, badass.

Or an early Saturn 4 door turbo.

Or a 2G MR2-T

Or a Z32TT

There are so many unique ideas that have not been done in this area, how do you choose? You'll be seeing quite a few neat tricks out of the fwd this year. Just have fun and be creative! If you need help, holla!

PS: If you want to give Spy a run, I'm thinking of selling my non-vtec Civic hatch. Should be a good run...

Sorry for the thread 'jack, although I'm not sure who this thread belongs to anymore...
soccerdude61587

they are large vehicles but AWS, twin 16g's, and a fmic on a chassis about as wide as my grandmothers Lexus 400 definitley says super pimp. honestly every three thousand/stealth i have been in (3 to be exact) makes all the DSM's i have driven and riden in look like underpowered noisy Geo's. but it comes at a price of at least 10 large for something virgin.

Hmmm...those must have been imposter 3S's asses I was kicking in my 'Geo' like AWD Talon.

Honestly, I've rarely seen a well tuned DSM get beat by any 3S under 140MPH. 3S's are incredibly sexy, comfortable and stable with much higher top end than a DSM. I'm not sure what the fastest 3S is down to, but last time I checked they were at least 2 seconds slower than the fastest DSM's.

All that being said, Spy's 3000gt was able to turn 12.99's in very stock form. Nothing to sneeze at! biggthumpup.gif

And Marcus' AWD was able to run 12.67. Damn GEO's. smrtkd, where are these three 3S cars? To be honest, I know of two in the area that are decently quick, but a couple mods and a DSM would be right there.
