duuuuude, you want a mean street car for cheap ill tell you what I think you should do. One word. . . Stroker! More low end torque and with a e3 16G you could have one hell of a street car. And as far as machine shops, my buddy had his 4g63 stroker built in a shop in peopria because they were apparently the best shop in the country to have a stroker built at. Theyve apparently done hundreds of 4G63 strokers. If not then there is a really good machine shop here in st.louis that is doing my motor right now that is fairly cheap and doesnt have a 2 month long wait. There name is Allied Motors. Their number is 1-636-946-4747. Ask for Adam. He's done quite a few 4G63 motors.

What machine shop would that be? huh.gif

I know Precision in Bloomington has done quite a few strokers, but I haven't heard of a Peoria shop.

I dont know the name off hand but as soon as I find out ill post it.

Not much progess, other than selling and buying some parts... picked up a gauge pod off e-bay... universal fit garbage. guess it will work for now. Also picked up a SAFC II just today. Looking forward to getting this thing on the road.... eventually. Got a lot of work to do between now and then... better get my rear in gear!
AWD DSM 1
Got the 3rd motor apart, found metal chunks in the oil pan. I think it threw a t-belt in the past and they didn't bother to clean the oil pan out. It's going to the machine shop at lunch. Race is on to see if I can get this thing put together and dialed in before slo pony day.
AWD DSM 1
Well, third motor bit the dust also... needs bored .40 over and the crank needs turned. mad.gif
natedogg
That sucks. I guess its getting harder and harder to find a used 6-bolt that doesn't need machine work.
turbohcar
I've got one!
AWD DSM 1
The one in your car?
turbohcar
Yep you got it. You should know best what work has been done to it! biggthumpup.gif
AWD DSM 1
wish I had the money!
turbohcar
You know I'll give you the extra special "you've helped me out before so I'll help you out" deal. Now all you have to do is decide which family member you want to sell! biggthumpup.gif

A huge biggthumpup.gif to turbohcar for the new heart that will power the killer... that's right, I'm back in business!! If all goes well, hopefully the car will be on the streets within the week! I've got a pile of parts that just need put together at this point.

You know that suspensful music they play in Jaws just before the shark kicks the everlivin' crap out of his victims? Yeah, that's what you're hearing now. ph34r.gif

Only because of a well-trained fisherman driving a GT35R-powered assault rifle. These here are merely ususpecting surfers and sunbathers. blink.gif Beware.

AWD DSM 1
Well, I think I'm getting close...

Went to install my 2g mas, 144 intake, and K&N and discovered the setup is about 3" too long to fit in the required space. mad.gif Hacked in a spare 1g mas for simplicity's sake temporarily. Anyone got a spare 1g K&N that I could borrow?

I guess that will save me from having to mess with the AFC for now, although I'm still going to try to install it, I just won't have to mess with it until I have some help tuning.
turbohcar
I DO!
AWD DSM 1
sweet, I'll grab that when I come down to get the other stuff if you don't mind!
awd4kicks
I've got two used 1G K&N's
AWD DSM 1
A HUGE thanks to kicks, spy, and ncgalant for helping me get the killer bleed, leaks pluged, and ON THE ROAD last night. See you all at the track! biggthumpup.gif biggthumpup.gif biggthumpup.gif biggthumpup.gif

Sooo...what she run????
AWD DSM 1
A pitiful 14.5. Boost was spiking very high, timing was getting pulled, and it was 95 deg out. sad.gif
ncgalant
Well we know the motor is strong. I figured your first pass of 16.0 was decient on 20psi, no MAS, and 3 year old gas. She's a fun and BEAUTIFUL car. Thanks for the ride.
black92_tsi_awd
I'm sure that time will improve quickly!

At least she rolling under her own power!
asiankid91
i want your car rob dont 4get
AWD DSM 1
Brought it to work today... Driveshaft is thumping on the exhaust pretty good, need to get that fixed, and the brakes are starting to ge mushy... probably need beeld some more....

Other than that... 110 is really fun on the street in the morning commute! biggrin.gif
mitsu90
I want a rematch biggthumpup.gif
black92_tsi_awd
While your under there fixing the driveshaft, fill those mounts with silicone!

Well we know the motor is strong.

You better believe it! Rob, if you want more go-fast parts you know where to find me.
AWD DSM 1
Ha! I've still got a laundry list of things to get it up to par, we'll see what happens from there.
AWD DSM 1
Well, after taking a week off, I decided to fix the clanking of what I thought was the driveshaft hitting the exhaust...

opps....

In reality it was the rear brake line bracket that was loose hitting the rear axle. blink.gif no wonder the brakes got soft... I'm sure that big hole in the brake line didn't help any!

Looking for a set of brakelines... probably go with stainless just for grins at this point. anyone?
turbohcar
You know I've got a set for you if you want them.

Stainless?
turbohcar
Nope, just a regular pair, but they'll do the trick.
akamiami
You need to have your head checked if you're considering putting used brake lines on a car you're going to drive hard. I know, I know, these are DSM's and it's tough to warrant spending 160 on brand new part when you can find something used for half as much, but gimme a f-ing break man, cough up the cash for a vital part that you know will get the job done.
turbohcar
Nor would I put used brake lines on my track car but I really need to get rid of this scrap heap taking up space in my storage unit. wink.gif
AWD DSM 1
Thanks for the offer Brett, but I think I'm going to get some stainless lines and be done with it. biggthumpup.gif
AWD DSM 1
Stainless lines are on, fit very nice, very easy swap. Also got the stereo in, along with the turbo timer. Still need to get the 2g mas wired up and the SAFC before it's back on the road.

To emphisize a point made a while back, don't skimp on the wiring guys. I pulled probably 50 feet of hacked and unused wiring that had been added.... sparks flew several times as I found one that still had juice in it... plus two aftermarket relays that no longer served a purpose... what a mess!!!! wacko.gif
AWD DSM 1
SAFC is wired up, stereo is installed, turbo timer in...

Plug in the ecu, flip the battery cutout back on... turn the key....

biggrin.gif

Still some miles to put on it to get this clutch broke in, but I've got a couple other tricks up my sleeve, should be an interesting SCDC.... wink.gif
black92_tsi_awd
Glad to hear it!

Should be a good weekend biggthumpup.gif
