Update: Spring 2006 Options

In an effort to repel those itchy keyboard finger posts, lets talk about something constructive. What are your plans in 2006? what are your goals? with which car? and what are doing to get there right now?




Me? I'm working on the Talon again. I took it apart again in late December. You would think that after three years of working on it without driving it would make a guy go crazy, NO. You ask why I took it apart? To make it faster. Man cannot live on just a basically stock car alone. Therefore, plans are in the making to build something different. This something different will be based around the stock motor, until it blows up (knock on wood). Goals include making a street worthy track monster that will run quicker than the average bear on the stock turbocharger (for now).

Right now, I'm not doing anything. I am however, going broke on go-fast parts. These parts include but aren't limited to:

Eprom ECU
GM MAFT
fuel tank-to-filter line
Hi-flow fuel filter
Full Throttle AFPR
3in turboback exhaust
2.5in intercooler pipes
Supra SMIC
780cc injectors

and some misc. maintenance mods.

How about you?

Trying to sell the vr-4 off, then hope to find a clean 92 AWD to tear up the streets... or maybe park in the garage for the next 3 years (if I keep it that long).

Seriously though, I'd like to build up a nice 11 sec 16g car that can handle some twistys... ambitious, probably.

Our plans seem very similiar. I'm going to go with getting a bigger inlet/outlet on the SMIC and maybe 550 injectors.

Absolutely. There have to be a FEW secrets in the mix. I'm going the same route Brett is with the Goat-o sled. It's in the garage, on stands, disassembled.

Plans are ripping out all the sound deadening, unnecessary parts, brackets and the like.
A fiberglass center console will be fabbed housing various switches and knobs that control some things that I don't care to mention.
New paint all around in addition to the very minor body work required.
Suspension upgraded.
Bigger turbo
Injectors in the 700 range.
Engine pulled, bay cleaned and repainted and refurbed.
Repair of wiring harness hack job done by a wannabe electric tech
Custom guage pod
ACT 2900
Fidanza Flywheel
Racing seats????

Having said all my plans for '06, it's important to note that they may only be completed by Dec '06!! I'll do my best to get this thing to the track, but until I get a little more time and cash, it's anyone's guess.

The car is going under the knife. We're going to fix her chest(hood) up. Some skin graphs (paint), a heart transplant(GT type turbo), lipo-suction(plasma cutter) and add some more safety features(cage update). It may be done in the next 2 months.

Don't worry, I got a few things up my sleeve too. And it looks like in a couple months, the Talon won't be my daily driver anymore, so I've got more options for speed now!

Plans for the Talon. Get everything together and running. Stock internal 2.0 to get it back on its feet. But by late 2006 it should be sporting a new built 6 bolt stroker with large turbo and front mount IC. Many details to come in warmer months and should be making its debut at Cordova soon.

But now I have a 92 Laser FWD turbo that is screaming for attention. So I am going to strip cut and remove everything on this car that has little to no purpose (AC, interior, sound deadening material, everything from the wiper motor to the radio wiring and bumpers to door and body reinforcement material) keeping the motor stock and 14b in place. This ugly little teal monster is going to be my budget racer once I finish the Talon. My go cart on crack with no safety in sight, hell I would pull the driver seat and put in a milk crate for the seat if I could.

Plans for me include dropping the dime (that's s10 for you who don't know) at least 5 inches all around, making it almost impossible for a 12oz "soda" can to fit between the ground and frame rails. OH YEAH!!! I would also like to get some new wheels and tires for the new look. I love the 16" wheels that came on the pre extreme zq8 s10s, but now I think I need to go with at least 17"s for the drop.

It's almost awkward not hearing about any problems with this or that when a mechanic changes the oil. I am usually stunned.

I'm so torn on this issue!! I want to do the paint while the car is torn apart right now, but I'm also dying to get it on the road. My inner DSM is fighting with my inner Aicraft Mechanic.

with my A/T dead looks like you will have the fasted auto on the site.

I feel your pain..I still have a fender in the shed to replace the one with the huge rust hole in it. Too busy wrenching to keep it alive and trying to make it faster to take the time to replace it!!

What color are you going to? Are you going with an original (or close to original) color or are you doing a complete change? If it's close to original you may be able to get away with doing it with everything back together.

It's going to be a deep cinnamon red metallic. I really want to strip the car down to the frame and do a thorough inspection of all the parts, though. I just can't justify what's half-assing it in my mind when it's just sitting in the garage and doesn't need to be driven. The engine will be out soon, and that's the big part of the battle.

I have thought about a high stall but if I go that route then I should also proably look at a LSD. Not sure if I can drop that kind of loot into a A/T setup...

550cc injectors, Safc, Ported 2g manifold and ported 2g o2 housing, Big/evoIII 16g, FMIC, tuning tuning tuning...I want to run 16-18psi daily, and have the car running for all of the meets coming up (chi dsm meets, AMS bbq, dsmcentral drag day)....

I don't think I will take it to the track this year, Im on the stock 70,000 mile clutch, and the stock 15yo headgasket and head studs...

Why don't you replace that clutch before you sink all that money in the new turbo etc.
That way you can play with what you got instead of having to baby it around with a bunch of horsepower that you can't put down.

Well im looking to get my car running right now. I bought a bum 6 bolt motor to put in my late 92 talon and now im rebuilding it. I went with a set of arias pistons on the stock 1G big rods, Clevite Bearings, ARP's all around and a Cometic head gasket. The head was rebuilt recently so ill just re use it. Bolt on's are an internally gated PTE 50 trim turbo ( Ill sell it for an internally gated buschur 20G), 650cc injectors, Buschur front mount IC and pipes, 3" exhaust w/ high flow cat, GM MAS and Translator, 2G exhaust manifold, 3000GT Fuel Pump (ill go bigger eventually) and rewire, Adjustable FPR ( probably an Aeromotive), 90 air to oil cooler, Accel 8mm plug wires, NGKBPR7ES plugs, Gabors Feramic clutch (looking for a 2100 lb pressure plate) and a 1G BOV.

I did a scratch hone on the block tonight and it came out pretty good. there are a couple of scores but nothing I can feel with my finger nail. Next step is to get the new piston ( 1 piston had a burn spot in it ) on the rod and have the other 3 cleaned, then I have to put the new rings on and bearings and then its re assembly time.

i am in the process of putting a turbo 90 laser motor into a 92 eclipse gs. hence the name eclaser. i have both cars completly torn apart. my garage has never seen so much clutter. i am pretty much leaving the car stock for now. i have an act 2100 clutch,metal head gasket, balance shafts removed, new timing belt and all that goes with that, some of the free mods, i think my brother is trading me a 14b turbo for it. i would like to get new exhaust if i have the money. this is the first dsm i have ever owed so i have been asking alot of questions. i hope to be done in a few months but right now i dont see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Well, let's see, I've got a welded center diff, pretty much the only change so far.

I still have a crunchy 2nd gear, and nothing at all behind the flex section of the exhaust now. I think it broke when I took the car off some sweet jumps.

Apparently you can hear it idle from 300ft away in the basement of the Urbana city building.

Yea, I'm using a DSM as a DD again. Something I said I'd never do. She used to belong to asiankid91. I've currently got a 1g maf back in her and am running an eprom to compensate for the 550s that are still in it. After going from the GM MAF back to a 1g I can honestly say I NEVER want to run a translator.
