I've personally seen three 93-94 7-bolt blocks that walked... both from the Peoria area. One block, you could actually take your hand and push the crank back and forth like 1/8" or something crazy.
There are lots of theories about crankwalk, but the only real answer to keep it from coming back is a 6-bolt block.
The 93-94's seem to fair better than the 95 and later's, but I still would never buy a car with a 7-bolt without planning on replacing it at any moment.

As soon as the gallery is back up I'll post the pics of the three 7bolt blocks I have on hand with gaping holes in them.
The spare six bolt though... no problems.
Not that the six bolt is utterly indestructable, but seeing the pile of scrap iron sitting in your living room is hard to dispute.

my laser is a 93 so is it the 7 bolt then??? it has 112k on it and had no probs with the motor just the tranny. do you guys think it will crank walk???
you have to check the manufactur date, I am not sure on the exact dates, but the early 93's had the 6 bolt and the late 93's had the 7 bolt

I was about to suggest checking with Gateway DSM, they have so many members and such a highly concentrated population that I figured they would have plenty of DSM's for sale that you could basically tell them what you want and someone's gotta have it (one thing to remember is that "everything that everone has, is for sale for the right price")

I'll have a really nice 90 240 sx in my possesion shortly that I'm asking $3k for, if you were interested in something other than a DSM. Around 95k on it, and I've heard that they last forever. New clutch, tires, full suspension... You know you want it!!

U said u want something with low miles which is really irrelevant. As long as u got good compression reliability shouldnt be in question(motor wise).
resalturbo
Jan 27 2004, 03:45 PM
should it have to be or have been rebuilt to have good compression??? how long do these motors last??? any estimates?? -resalturbo-

welll there are about two or three more that i am gonna look at and if i dont like then i might just deal with the assmatic 7-bolt laser for now, i found a few cheap cars in the tradin-post although not dsm's i am gonna look into, it has been harder than it seemed to be at first, finding one i like/can afford is a hard thing to do, at least in walking range per say......-resalturbo-
